In 2012, Caritas of Port Chester became incorporated as an independent 501(c)3 organization.  But that's not the whole story...

The journey began back in 1995 when a small group of church volunteers in Port Chester began serving soup and sandwich suppers to the hungry.  To supplement the suppers, they created a food pantry.  By 2003, the Soup Kitchen was offering hot breakfasts and lunches five days a week, with the pantry open two days a week.

By 2006, we had expanded our offering to include a free clothing distribution service (Open Closet) and an emergency services program to help single moms seeking assistance with medical and living expenses.

The lessons learned over the years, followed by the experience of one of the worst recessions in memory have taught us we needed to expand our base of support to reach more people in need and to make a more meaningful impact in our community and beyond.  Today, we are better positioned to do more for the people we serve and those who seek out opportunities to volunteer to make a difference.  Come, join us and help us grow.  It will change you.
